Penn And Teller: Fool Us is a competition for magic television show where magicians perform tricks before American comedians and magicians Penn & Teller. The show’s first two seasons were hosted nimbly by Jonathan Ross, and the second season onwards the Penn And Teller — Fool Us Host Hannigan.
Every episode begins by introducing the purpose of the series. Penn & Teller come out and take their seats towards the stage. The the hopeful performers perform their magic before them in front of a a live studio audience. After each performance, Penn & Teller privately discuss the show while the host questions the magicians. Penn & Teller then reveal their knowledge of how the trick was performed, typically using cryptic language or recording the technique and then present it to the magicians for confirmation, the method, in order to avoid publicly exposing the method of the trick.

Fool Us was filmed at Fountain Studios in London, England (season one) and the Penn & Teller Theater in Las Vegas (season two onward). After each performance, when Penn & Teller cannot figure out how a trick was performed, the magician(s) that performed it are awarded the Fool Us trophy and a five-star flight for a trip to Las Vegas to perform as the opening act of Penn & Teller’s show also at The Rio Hotel & Casino.
The fifth season began on October 18, 2021.
Teller notes that the doublespeak helps teach people new techniques without spoiling the trick. If Penn & Teller are wrong or are unable to figure out how they did it, the magician is awarded the Fool Us trophy and the opportunity to later perform at one of Penn & Teller’s Las Vegas shows. A backstage judge, who is versed in the techniques of the magic business and intimately aware of how the trick is done prior to the show, will make any important calls as to whether Penn & Teller were properly fooled. At the end of each program, Penn & Teller perform an act of magic on their own.
For the first season, Jonathan Ross served as a temporary replacement for Penn and Teller’s hosting duties however, they returned for the second season.
